How much does gel candle wax at michael’s cost? And how do you embed things in it?
How do you put the objects in because i am putting cell organelles in it. Help!!
Last time I checked, gel cost about $4.00 per pound at Michael’s. To embed things in your candle, buy the medium weight gel, melt the wax, pour it into the container and allow it to cool slightly. Then, using the end of a metal spoon or metal skewer, push the objects down into the wax.
It’s impossible to be more specific because the room room temperature, container and weight of the embeds will all factor into this. Unfortunately, this is a trial and error process. I would suggest just pouring one candle at first and be prepared for the embed to sink lower than you want it to.
If this is your first foray into making gel candles, please be very careful that whatever you embed is not flammable! On the other hand, if this is for a school project and is not a candle you can do what my daughter did for AP biology.
She made a cell organelle display using gel candle wax by pouring the wax into a small foil pie pan that we sprayed a bit of Pam in. We poured the wax one inch deep. When the gel cooled slightly, she embedded different shaped beads and buttons into the wax. After the entire thing was completely cooled, she gently removed it from the pie pan.
Good luck! I figure the whole project should cost you under ten dollars.
